Arts Derbyshire Directory

I'm trying harder at self promotion, and so...

I'm now featured in the Arts Derbyshire Directory!

which is available, at www.artsderbyshire.org.uk

The site is a really useful resource for creative's and artists, and is great platform for finding opportunities and arts events in the local area.

So it's great to be listed on the site!

New work

Firstly I have to apologise for the poor quality of these images,

I've taken the pictures using a digital camera, but ideally I'm waiting to scan them in. I don't have a high quality scanner at home, but soon I hope to use a good scanner to scan all my recent work with.

Here are a few examples of the characters I've been painting recently, I've been trying to develop my Illustrative style, and keep exploring new ways of working and depicting characters.

I used the same pose, here for both character's, but changed the face.

I haven't kept the blog very updated, and have gotten side tracked from my Illustration work, due to commitments at work and home.

I've purchased a domain name, and hope to be setting up a professional looking website soon, and get all my work up to date and scanned in on it.

My Etsy Shop is up and running...

well...

I've finally gotten around to creating an Etsy Shop to sell prints of my Illustrations and paintings.

I've been selling my prints locally, and at various events. However its about time I set up an online platform to sell my work.

you can find my online shop here : www.etsy.com/shop/SDGIllustration

and you can also find a linked tab to the shop underneath the banner of this blog. I haven't uploaded all of the prints available yet, I have uploaded ones that I currently have available for sale, having sold the others I had had printed.

so hopefully we'll see what happens!

I'm also setting up a Facebook page, it seems a little crazy that I hadn't done it sooner, but I thought I should add it to the list of online platforms I am available on. So that's underway too!

Commissions!

I've been working on few commissions for people lately, the other week, I produced a series of place settings. The settings where done using a dip pen and ink, and where to accompany wedding cakes at a wedding fayre, It's not something Ive done before, but I was pleased with the end result, and so was my client. She wanted something unique and different, with a hand made feel. The cake's looked amazing, shes very talented and I'm glad she was pleased with them, smiles all round!

I love painting :)

Ive been spending alot of time painting this piece. I haven thought of a name yet.

Its not finished yet. Im working on the hands, the sky and the background, at the minute. I hope to fill the meadow with over sized wild flowers.I've decided that I want to produce a series of paintings for an exhibition. This painting is exactly the style and sort of work I love producing. I love surreal characters, oversized heads, big eyes, small bodies, my influences stem from pop surrealism. With the work of Mark Ryden, Tara Mcpherson, Ana bagayan, Todd Schorr, Lisa Petrucci and Nouar Noir, being notable favourites of mine. I am also a great admirer of Jasmine Becket-Griffith, who produces stunning work, I just wish I could be as fast at painting as her! I'm so slow!

I'll upload the finished version of this, when its done, I'm really looking forward to producing more work like this though, I look forward to going into the studio everyday to finish this, so I cant wait to display a series!

Bright Calendar 2013!

I never posted pictures of the Calendars I worked on during my time in London at my Internship with the Bright Group International. Heres a peak at them incase you wondered what they looked like. I received my calendars a while ago, but dont want to use them!

These pictures where taken from Bright's facebook page, if you want to check out more about there agency you can find them here https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bright-Group-International or look on there web page! http://brightgroupinternational.com/

Unfinished things...

I started painting this image of a little girl and a kitten, I did it out of impulse really, I just really wanted to paint something, but I got a bit fed up with it and so it ended up unfinished, with no real purpose or meaning. But I quite like it anyway, and thouht I might as well upload it.

I also started another painting which I havent finished. I decided that I didnt like it, and so stopped painting. I like the sketch I first did, but the painting adapted and changed, and Ive grown to really dislike it. Thats why the hand is unfinished and blocked in with colour,

I think I need to spend more time drawing over and over, to get the sketch right first. But sometimes when I paint a sketch it ends up nothing like I imagined it would when painted. I think thats what happened with this piece. I guess you have to make mistakes and dislike things as a learning process, so its not all bad!

Updates for 2013

I can't believe how long its been since my last Blog post, time goes so fast.

I've had to delay my Internship with Pocko until the summer, as I'm saving up funds, and have spent alot of money recently.

In the meantime, I'm creating new work for my portfolio. Ive been painting bits and bobs, and trying new things out. I did a series of character paintings for my portfolio a while ago, which you can see here, the aim was to create a few sheets of character studies. I've gotten a bit side tracked lately with a few commissions. Ive also spent alot of time on one particluar painting, which I'm enjoying so much, I'm wondering whether to branch out into fine art, and exhibition type work. I guess I'm just unsure of what I want at the minute. As long as I'm painting though, I'm content! heres a look at a few character studies of faces :

I used an acrylic paper to paint these on, something which is new for me, as I;ve never used it before. I cant quite figure out if I like it or not. The paint seems to sit slightly in the texture of the paper. As it has a canvas like feel and look to it.
