Sam, again!!

I've taken away a lot of elements for the Sam piece to make the image clearer and more readable.
I've also added some clouds collaged from cotton wool, and muted the background right down. As well as playing around with the overall composition.

 I think
this makes the image a lot fresher, any comments and feedback welcome!

New Editorial

After Playing about for a while with a few ideas. I came up with this Idea, I've redone my previous editorial piece, as I wasn't happy with it. I'm a lot happier with this.

Sam Project- feedback?

Here is how my double page 'Sam' project is looking at the minute. I'm trying to use photoshop, and its taking a bit of getting used to.

I can visualize how I want my work to look, but doing it digitally and putting it all together,  is something I'm finding a little frustrating. There are a lot of elements I dislike, and little parts which I need to alter, I don't think it quite works at the minute. I would love feedback, I feel a bit stuck after staring at it for so long, I need some fresh eyes to tell me what's wrong with it. I don't know if Im being too critical, but I'm pretty much out of my comfort zone.

So any comments would be appreciated!

So Far...

Playing about with Typography, and brushes.

Sam book project

I am Currently working on a double page spread for the current 'Sam' Picture book brief. For this brief, each person was given a specific line to illustrate a double page spread in a book. My line is

'Leapt over the gap... and then'

We were given the instructions to create a full colour character, who lives in a black and white ( and half tone) world. We were also given a very specific stripey top, which our character 'Sam' would have to wear. Sam also had to wear bright red, Converse trainers.

I haven't posted any roughs of my work because I'm a bad blogger.  I should do at some point, but I thought I'd upload a few character paintings. I'm going about this in a silly order, I know.

 Character Position one
 Character Position two
 Character Position three
Moons one and two... paint tests with crackle medium. Chimney Idea.

Editorials 3 - 'How to be Conceited'

I've been stressing over this Editorial so much, after all the time I've spent on my editorials, I feel extremely, disappointed in how they've all turned out. This one more so. I feel as if its a step backward, I've learnt a lot from doing it. Hopefully for the next brief, my final piece will be more successful. I definitely hope to revisit this, and redo another piece time for the january deadline.

Editorial 2 -'How to undo things'

Editorial 1 - 'Why Small Victories matter'

Small Victories Editorial

Ive been working away trying to tackle this editorial brief. Its not my favourite area of illustration so far,
to be honest. I abandoned my previous idea, there was far too much going on, I could have played around with the idea more, but I favoured this idea instead. I feel like the area with the cheese's needs work, but i didnt know what else to do with the space, and I liked the idea of the mice's heads being at opposite ends of the piece.

Argh! Ive done the wrong article

Ive started work on the Editorial Rough that was in for friday. As i tried to illsutrate the wrong article.Because I am silly.
My Idea was a little obsure and rushed anyway.

Ive come up with this concept for the 'why small victories matter' article. I've taken
the text '...Breaking big challenges down into chunks isn't original advice, of course'. As well as the idea that big challenges are daunting.

I like the idea, although compositionally i think this needs alot of rearranging anf time spent on it. I tend to always make things look like a realistic scene, rather than a design. So im going back to my desk to figure this one out.

Spam Advertising brief- Final Piece

Final Piece-
For the Advertising Spam Brief.
The Brief involved being given a small sketch which was very descriptive of which characters we had to incorparate ( A spaceman/woman , an alien and a robot ). We were also given the exact text to use, and given instructions of where everything should be located on the piece. Other than this we had a small bit of room to creative and add our unique 'stamp'  on the work.

First Brief of 3rd year Illustration BA (hons)

3rd Year.

The Brief:

The Brief for this current work, was to create 7 individual  and stylisitcally different characters over the summer period influenced by artists/illustrators of our choice. Saul Steinbergs' piece, 'Techniques at a Party' was a starting point, that were encouraged to look into.

The second part of the Brief:

Was to use these characters, as part of a design using pictorial space. The Illustration would be of a party scene, and involve the characters interacting with each other. The brief also entailed the development and completion of an eighth character within the piece, of myself. A two week deadline was given for the completion of the work.
